Villars is a story of commitment

Since it was founded, Villars Maître Chocolatier has been built on convictions. And these convictions have become the company commitments. To offer the finest chocolate, respecting the strictest standards of the trade. To play a role in company life, to behave responsibly towards employees and the environment. To work in compliance with the values of transparency, both in how we choose and cultivate raw materials and ingredients. And to be rightfully proud of our origins, the Canton of Fribourg, in Switzerland.

Swissness forever

Villars Maître Chocolatier, Pur Chocolate Suisse, or Pure Chocolat Suisse, proudly asserts its Swiss origins and puts the Swiss Cross on its chocolate bars. This is no coincidence. It’s our longstanding commitment.

Villars Maître Chocolatier has always favoured raw materials and suppliers from Switzerland: not just Swiss milk, but also Swiss suppliers for sugar, liqueurs and most of the ingredients needed to process cocoa into chocolate bars.

And from time our factory was founded in 1901, this process has taken place in Switzerland, in the Canton of Fribourg.

This is borne out by the partnerships we have with local Swiss producers.

100% swiss milk

Sole rights to use the logo of Swissmilk, the official body for promoting Swiss milk, on our packaging.

100% swiss sugar

Authorisation from the Swiss sugar industry associations to use their official logo on our packaging.

100% swiss alcohol

Agreement with Swiss distillers commended by Distisuisse, a body that recognises exceptional skill and the treasures of the Swiss countryside.

Since 1 January 2017, new legislation came into force regarding the terms of use of the Swiss Cross and the name “Switzerland”.

For foodstuffs such as chocolate, 80% of the weight of the raw materials must come from Switzerland. In addition, the processing, which gives the product its essential characteristics, must take place in Switzerland.

Villars also prefers to use local packaging manufacturers such as Schelling of Oensingen, Sauberli of Chatel St Denis, Smurfit of Muehlin, Birkauser of Rheinacht, etc.

Villars Maître Chocolatier meets all these conditions, much to the joy of all those that love Swiss chocolate.

Social responsibility, our human capital

Since its beginnings, Villars Maître Chocolatier has been a small company whose primary responsibility is towards its employees. Training and security are primordial. Villars Maître Chocolatier trains apprentices in production, logistics and management. Security is a constant requirement and is addressed through our “Security is my Business” programme. Villars Maître Chocolatier is involved in local life, both through its recruitment and the choice of local suppliers, be it for sugar, milk, liqueurs or packaging.

Villars commits to sustainable cocoa

On 28 June 2017, Villars makes a commitment as a founding member on the Swiss Platform of Sustainable Cocoa.

Its aim: to strengthen sustainable management in the cocoa sector, substantially improve the situation of cocoa producers, and create an attractive cocoa sector for current and future generations.

What makes this platform unique and strong is that it brings together the main producers of chocolate in Switzerland, the SECO as well as numerous enterprises, non-governmental organisations and research institutes.
